Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender plants are in flower at the moment and are buzzing with bees and other pollinating insects. You only have to brush past them in the sunshine to smell their beautiful fragrance. Lavender essential oil is one of the most popular and well known of all the essential oils, and one of the most powerful.  The oil is made from the flowers of the plant and is usually extracted via steam distillation. It is neither toxic nor irritating, probably the only essential oil you can use, neat, directly on your skin.

Lavender is a natural antibiotic, antiseptic, anti-depressant, sedative and de-toxifier!   So if you only have one bottle of essential oil in your house, it should be Lavender.  Use a drop to treat burns and scalds and prevent scarring.  Put a drop on your pillow at night to help you get to sleep, or in a warm bath to help you relax and unwind after a busy day. It’s also good for repelling unwanted insects (the bitey kind!) and has a soothing and calming effect when applied to insect bites.

So… Lavender is a good all-rounder, useful for a wide range of conditions as well as relaxing and balancing the whole body.
